If you've spent any time in the dreamy, bilingual world of The Marías, you already know María Zardoya's voice. Now she's stepping into the spotlight solo with Not for Radio, and the Pacific Northwest gets not one but two chances to catch her this August.
Who Is Not for Radio?
Not for Radio is María Zardoya's solo project — a raw, introspective departure from the lush indie-pop she's known for as the frontwoman of The Marías. The Puerto Rican-rooted singer-songwriter has built a career blending English and Spanish-language songwriting with a sound that moves effortlessly between soul, dream-pop, and bossa nova influences. With The Marías, she helped deliver a Grammy-nominated, Billboard-charting run on the strength of 2024's Submarine. Under the Not for Radio name, she's carving out a distinct creative identity, anchored by her debut solo album, Melt.
This summer, that project hits the road on "A Summer in the Forest," a North American tour making stops in some of the country's most historic and beautifully preserved theaters — including two right here in the Pacific Northwest.
